Its a Wonderful Life

One of my all time favorite movies is Its a Wonderful Life. I am sure you have seen it too.

James Steward is George Bailey who intends to commit suicide on Christmas Eve.

His guardian angel, Clarence Odbody, intervenes and shows him how his life has affected the people around him - or rather, how those lives would have been had he never been born. And he realizes his life had been a blessing to many, after all.

He wants to live again and is brought back to the moment he intended to jump off the bridge to kill himself. He happily returns to his family and the angel Clarence finally earns his wings (the ringing of a silver bell announces the event).

it's a wonderful life

What an absolutely wonderful movie!

This film always makes me think that our lives are so full of blessings we easily take for granted - and often we do not see our lives have a real meaning to those around us.

My family has also experienced the suicide of a family member and for the rest of my days I wish he would have known what George Bailey learned to know: that our lives were better for having him with us.

One day I started going through all the photographs I had on my computer. Like many of us, especially on holidays I walk with a camera in hand. I remember the time when you actually bought film and had to be careful on how many pics to take so I would not run out of film. These days digital cameras make it possible to snap away and experiment with photographing - if you want to take ten photos of something, you can do so.

Now where this is leading: I was surprised at how many wonderful things I found in those photos. Beautiful scenes and details, animals, seasons, people… All things that brought me joy, yet things I had forgotten.

I realized what a blessing pictures can be. They really speak a thousand words, and bring back good memories, reminding us that it's a wonderful life indeed.

I spent many evenings enjoying those photos, and picking up the best ones. And then the thought hit me that why would I not put them here on Inspirational Short Stories, and let you know what they were about and how they made me happy. I hope you will enjoy them too. I hope you understand I shall put my copyright info on the photos, and if you wish to see them closer and in greater detail, click on them and you will end up to my FineArtAmerica website, where you can look at them in more detail.

Enjoy the beauty of this world - it helps you to remember Its a Wonderful Life!
